In LIVE EMPOWERED, author, teacher and speaker Kelley Latta reveals through scripture how God constantly pursues us. God wants us to love Him with our entire beings … but do we truly love Him? Have we given Him our hearts, or are we keeping ourselves off-limits? When we know God, dwell in His presence, and stand on His Word, we will also experience His power. Listeners are encouraged to know and love Jesus so their lives can be transformed.
More About Kelley
Kelley Latta is a Bible teacher and event speaker whose passion is teaching believers how to approach Christ through His Word so they can live transformed.
Having professed faith in Jesus as a child in Christian school, Kelley was confronted in her mid-twenties by the reality that her beliefs about Christianity didn’t match up with Jesus’ teachings. Compelled into the Word to discover Truth for herself, she encountered Jesus through its pages and finally experienced the transforming power of grace. She now aims to help the body realize the saving reality of authentic intimacy with Jesus Christ.
Kelley and her husband, Steve, live in Hanover, PA where they both serve in leadership roles in their home church, Hanover First Church of God. When not writing or teaching, Kelley can be found at the soccer fields watching her two teenage sons play or loving on their two Australian Shepherds. Her greatest hope is that her life will reflect the authentic character of Jesus.
A word from Kelley
Have you ever wondered if you were just missing something? If there’s supposed to be more? You go to church. You fellowship with other Christians. You’ve learned the Bible stories. Yet there’s still a void in your heart you can’t quite name. You’ve heard that life in Christ is the path to abundant joy, yet that joy has apparently determined to elude you. You’ve been taught about a peace that transcends your understanding and comforts you in difficult circumstances, but you have yet to experience it. As you hear Scripture claim you are a new creation, you’re thankful no one can see what’s really going on inside.
If that’s you, I can relate. I share your story. I spent 20 years under the banner of Christianity striving to be what God desired me to be. I knew I was supposed to take on the righteousness of Christ, but I didn’t know how to make it happen so I did my best to change myself. Noticeably absent from my life was joy, and my striving felt like an oppressive chain, rather than the Biblical promise of freedom in Christ.
Then I discovered the truth of John 5:39-40: “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”
I had neglected coming to Jesus Himself. I hadn’t realized it, but through all those years of attending church and praising Jesus with my mouth, I had never really given Him my heart. I thought I had. I had convinced myself that saying all the right things and going through the right motions meant that I loved the Lord. I substituted knowing a lot about Him for truly knowing and loving Him, and then I wondered why I wasn’t experiencing any of the wonderful promises found in the Word. I was guilty of Matthew 15:8, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
Dear one, His power is in His presence. Above all else, He seeks for us to know Him. He longs for sweet fellowship with us, and as we accept His invitation to spend time with Him through His Word and in prayer, He reveals Himself and grace begins to do its work.
I encourage you to press in for God’s best. Don’t settle for allowing Jesus to remain a distant God who deserves worship but is not known. Knowing Him is EVERYTHING.
